Shopping ban – 2 month recap

2 months of my shopping ban down!! This has been such a great experience so far, so I’m seriously considering extending it after these 3 months are up.

I think I saw more things in stores that I wanted to buy this month (although that may have been because I visited Charleston). It was a little harder to say no – and I will admit that I had a moment of weakness in the airport where I bought a book. In my defense, it was The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, which I’ve been wanting to read forever, and the plane seemed like a good time to read it. However, this purchase was in violation of my shopping ban, so I donated the amount that the book cost to IJM! I’ve decided to give myself grace for this purchase because I have been learning so much, despite that moment of weakness!

But overall, I consider this month to be a success! I’m still amazed by how little shopping occupies my thoughts now, which has been extremely freeing.

What I’ve learned this month:

  • Books are my weakness (just kidding I already knew this!).
  • It’s wonderful to not feel guilty about spending money.
  • It’s also wonderful to be saving money!
  • Again, just so thankful for what I already have that I don’t deserve!

I decided before my shopping ban began that I would allow myself to buy a few items of spring clothing once it warms up, since it really is necessary. But I’m going to set a strict budget, buy only what I really need, and purchase clothing from ethical brands such as ABLE. But it doesn’t seem like it will ever warm up in NC right now, so maybe I won’t even have to buy anything! 😉
